COMMODITY TRADER - IP SOYBEANS

Field Farms Marketing Ltd. (FFM) is a global agricultural commodities trading house specializing in organic, non-GMO and specialty commodities. FFM has Offices in South-Western Ontario, Toronto, Amsterdam, Switzerland, Ukraine and India.

FFM takes pride to deal in Fair-Trade Specialty Markets with a cause. FFM has positive impacts on farming communities around the globe and on the environment. FFM is working with purpose and integrity.

FFM is seeking a commodities trader to deal in mostly IP- Non-GMO Soybeans.

Responsibilities

  • Selling /exporting internationally produced specialty agricultural products, including Non-GMO and IP soybeans, Canadian pulses and other grains
  • Managing production contracts with producers and tracking inventories of products in the assigned portfolio
  • Overseeing the storage, processing and logistics of traded products worldwide
  • Develop and maintain extensive and varied business relationships in the marketplace
  • Actively drive new business growth by developing new relationships with both buyers and suppliers
  • Monitor oilseed markets, and perform market analysis
  • Provide excellent customer service by delivering the right product, at the right time, at the right price

Skills/Qualifications

  • IP soybean selling/trading experience
  • Experience in selling specialty agricultural products.
  • Thorough understanding of soybean and oilseed markets
  • An understanding of rules and regulations regarding the purchasing and exporting of agricultural commodities
  • Understanding of markets hedging [CBOT]
  • Willingness to travel
  • Exceptional negotiation, time management, interpersonal and communication skills with a pleasant demeanour
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to work effectively with others and the capacity to develop good business
  • relationships
  • High degree of technical knowledge in commercial grain markets- both domestic and international
  • Detail oriented with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

Location: Toronto

Education

Postsecondary degree in agriculture, supply chain management or a related discipline

Experience

Minimum 2 years in a trading environment or similar position

Salary: Comfortable base salary  and commision (depending upon successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, no cap on commisions)

Job Duties

  • Provide general counsel, advice, and guidance on business and financial matters as required
  • Maintain an accurate and complete trail of supporting documentation for all activities
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with team
  • Advise on the content and accuracy of financial reporting
  • Ensure that all month-end financial duties and resulting financial reporting is completed in a timely and accurate manner
  • Record all business transactions, process accruals and adjustments, reconcile accounts, and prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting and financial statements
  • Maintain year-end working papers and spreadsheets, and assist with preparation for any internal or external audits or independent reviews being conducted
  • Assist in work of both A/P and A/R
  • Collect, interpret, and report on financial data
  • Prepare financial statements and bank reconciliations
  • Process and enter invoices for payment, match invoices with purchase orders and check for accuracy
  • Payroll submission
  • Review and update credit and loan files
  • Organize filing of all appropriate documents
  • Prepare monthly WSIB submissions for accounting and monthly remittances for HST
  • Supporting the COO and CEO on various matters
  • Credit Insurance

Job Requirements

  • CPA designation or working towards final accreditation in business, finance, accounting, or a related field
  • Excellent MS office skills
  • Three years of experience in the financial industry
  • Ability to analyze and present numerical data in tables, spreadsheets, and forms
  • Knowledge of accepted accounting rules, practices, tax laws, and reporting requirements
  • Ability to read, understand, and calculate financial figures such as discounts, interest rates, proportions, percentages, and taxes
  • Basic knowledge of accounting systems, budgets, and internal controls
  • Ability to work under pressure in a high paced environment
  • Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands
  • High level of integrity and excellent work ethic
  • Ability to work individually as well as part of a team
  • Experience with Prosoft ( Progressive Software) is an asset
  • Client relations management abilities, including the ability to represent the firm

Remuneration

Salary based on your experience and qualifications. FFM offers a group health and dental benefits plan.
